MYSLICKI AND SAVILL - CANADIAN NORDIC COMBINED ATHELTES FIS NORDIC WORLD SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

LIBEREC-CZECH REPUBLIC — Canada’s Jason Myslicki and Wesley Savill finished 42nd and 43rd respectively today in the Gunderson Normal Hill HS 100 with a 10k cross country race. For Myslicki who is recovering from a fever that caused him to scratch in the Mass Start event on Thursday, today’s event was a disappointment. “Any of my training jumps at all would have put me in the 20’s” but” bad luck with the wind and snow“ put him in 42nd position going into the X/C race. I started with Wes (Savill, CAN) as the next guy to catch. The fastest 2 guys in the race were behind me. It was a windy course…I stayed with them as long as I could. I didn’t have the preparation I wanted having had a fever with little exercise in the last couple of days.”

Competing at his first Nordic World Ski Championships Wes Savill reports “today was an all round good day. I jumped very well and got quite lucky with the conditions. I wished that I could have skied a little faster because I know that if I race smarter and technically stronger I can shave a minute off.”

On the podium today were – Todd Lodwick of the USA winning his second gold medal in the Nordic World Championships, Jan Schmid from Norway finishing in 2nd place took Silver , and Bill Demong of the USA won the Bronze.

The next individual event is the Gunderson Large Hill HS 134 with 10k race on Saturday, February 28th.

Today’s top five were:
1. Todd Lodwick USA 24:22.3 min (Jump rk. 1)
2. Jan Schmid NOR +0:13.0 min (Jump rk. 2 tie)
3. Bill Demong USA +0:33.5min (Jump rk. 12)
4. Anssi Koivuranta FIN +0:54.7 (Jump rk. 2tie)
5. Norhito Kobayashi JPN +1:02.9 (Jump rk. 8)

JASON MYSLICKI MOVES UP 18 PLACES IN KLINGENTHAL TODAY

KLINGENTHAL, GERMANY. — Canada’s Jason Myslicki finished 33rd today in the HS 140 with a 10k cross country race. .

“I’m excited to have been coached on the ski jump for the first time in a long time. Obviously, it is only possible make so much progress in one jump, but my jumping was significantly better than it was at the Whistler World Cup and I am starting to get some feeling which is good.

I started the race knowing that there was some opportunity for strategy on such a challenging course and really wanted to push myself now that I am feeling healthier. My goal was to stay relaxed and keep my skiing smooth. Pretty quick I realized that I was feeling stronger than the athletes around me and slowly began pursuing athletes ahead of me.”
High winds caused the cancellation of today’s scheduled jumping round. Yesterday’s Provisional Competition round was applied to obtain the start list for the 10km Cross Country ski race today. Myslicki’s start in 51st position put him near the back of the 61 man field 3:33 minutes behind the leader and winner Anssi Koivuranta.
Despite his start position Myslicki moved steadily through the ranks finishing the race in 27:19.7 min. and moving him 18 places up the leader board. His X/C time was 19th best overall but left him just out of the top 30 and World Cup points.

“Finishing with a 19th time rank in a field of 61 starters in the Nordic combined competition really is a boost in my confidence, especially on such a difficult cross country course. Although, my not my top result of the season, my performance is heading in the direction I want which is to be standing on the podium in Vancouver. “

Today’s top five were:
1st. Anssi Koivuranta FIN 27:16.7
2nd. Magnus Moan NOR +0:15.4
3rd. Jan Schmid NOR +1:04.1
4th. Bjoern Kircheisen GER +1:04.6
5th. Bill Demong USA +1:07.1

Myslicki will be competing again tomorrow in Klingenthal.
